Alumni Supports Class of 2020

Dear YC Alumni,

As an alumna of York Catholic High School, you are part of our family and have likely been watching as our country and our school has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. While this is unquestionably an uncertain time in many Americans’ lives, the Class of 2020 have had some heartbreaking circumstances thrown their way.

Graduation marks a time of transition that all of us look back on with fond memories. I’m sure many of you remember the excitement that came with the last weeks of senior year; the final countdown, yearbook signings, prom, and graduation. Never did our newest alumni expect the ending of their high school careers to be in their living rooms. How heartbreaking is it to imagine finishing our time at York Catholic without a graduation ceremony together as a class?

With the current pandemic, the heat of summer, and school lobby construction, York Catholic is looking at alternative venues in late July so the Class of 2020 can celebrate and be together one last time before they begin their next chapter. That is why I’m contacting you today.

We began our Alumni Association not as a fundraising arm of the school, but to continue to build our YC community, as a way to keep in touch and share memories and celebrate accomplishments and milestones. Yet these extraordinary circumstances call for an extraordinary effort from our YC family.

This is one time we are asking for us to come together to support our newest alumni. We are asking for your help to rally behind our current seniors, the youngest upcoming group to join our Alumni Association, and provide them with a graduation they won’t forget!

We can help our future alumni by helping to offset the costs associated with graduation (venue rental, caps, gown, commemorative photo, etc.). If you want to be a part of something special for the YC Class of 2020, click here to make a donation or send a check to York Catholic, 601 E Springettsbury Ave, York PA 17403. Be sure to mark Graduation 2020 in the Memo section.

If CDC guidelines do not allow for large gatherings by mid-July, donations will be transferred to the York Catholic Tuition Assistance Fund in the name of the YC Alumni Association to help students whose families may be suffering hardships as a result of the current economic challenges associated with COVID-19.

Thank you for sharing your York Catholic Irish spirit and welcoming the Class of 2020 to our YC Alumni family.

Sincerely,

Donna (Crimmins) Hoffman ‘72
