Class of 2019 Academic All-Stars




Kathryn Rader will attend Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. Katy was Valedictorian, Distinguished Honor Roll student and Vice President of the National Honor Society.  She was a Student Ambassador and member of Student Council, Stewards of the Earth, Alpha Peer Helpers, Cross Country team, Basketball team, Lacrosse team, Varsity Club, and was named to numerous All-Star teams.  She also volunteered as a math tutor and as a counselor at youth basketball camps. Congratulations Katy!






Luke Motter will attend Penn State University and major in Math/Astrophysics. Luke was Salutatorian, a member of the National Honor Society, and earned First Honors every marking period. He was also active in Cross Country, Chess club, Envirothon, and the Musical.  He was a Math Counts coach and involved with the Ignite Youth Group. Luke is an Eagle Scout and placed 3rd in his age group at the 2018 Harrisburg Marathon. He volunteers at the food pantry, as an altar server, and with the elementary youth group. Luke has taken his service to a global scale by traveling to Africa and Peru on mission trips. Congratulations Luke!




Sarah Reed received a full ride from LaSalle University and plans to study Chemistry.  Sarah was a member of the National Honor Society, was on the Distinguished Honor Roll her entire senior year, and on the Honor Roll for six years at York Catholic. She received numerous academic awards including Excellence in Chemistry, Excellence in Biology, and Honorable Mention in AP Chemistry, US History, Pre-Calculus, and Art. Outside of the classroom, she is Student Ambassador, a member of the Basketball and Lacrosse teams, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, Art Club, Chess Club, Varsity Club, and Homecoming & Prom Committees. Her athletic and artistic talent earned her District Championships in Basketball and Lacrosse, Finalist status in the 2017 YCASE Art Show, and 1st Place and Community Choice in the 2018 Canvas Arts Show by Warehaus.  Congratulations Sarah!




Miranda Shearer plans to study Animal Behavior at Bucknell University.  She is a National Honor Society member and participates in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Envirothon, Chess Club, and Country Meadows Club.  She achieved Honor Roll status throughout all four years at York Catholic, received the United States Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, and received the certificate of excellence in Physics, English, Trigonometry, and Geometry.  She volunteers at Good Old Tails Senior Animal Rescue, Country Meadows Senior Retirement Community, and for Special Olympics.  Congratulations Miranda!




Dylan Steigerwald will attend Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH where he plans to pursue a pre-engineering degree.  He was a Distinguished Honor Roll student and member of the National Honor Society.  He was a QuestBridge Scholar award recipient, and also received the American Society of Highway Engineers Harrisburg Chapter Scholarship award.  He serves at the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry and with the SPARKS middle-school Youth Ministry.  He also serves on a mission trip in West Virginia each summer called Manus Christi, meaning “The Hands of Christ.”  His extra-curricular activities include musical, stage crew, St. Joseph Parish choir, St. Joseph CYO basketball team, and Model United Nations where he was the recipient of the Outstanding Statesman and Chairman’s Choice Award.  Congratulations Dylan!
