Scholarship Opportunities

The York Catholic graduating class typically earns over $10 million in college scholarships each year.  On average, over 65% of the students earn scholarships.  Students are encouraged to apply for both university and private scholarships.  Students are encouraged to check the posting of available scholarships in the College & Career Room and in the Google Classroom.

It is recommended that students bring all scholarship required forms, letters, envelopes, and postage together, and ready to mail, to the guidance office at least a week to two weeks before the due date of the scholarship.  Please remember to request all transcripts and letters of recommendation at least two weeks in advance of the mailing date.  All official transcripts must be mailed from York Catholic and cannot be given to students to mail with a scholarship application.


Guaranteed College Admissions

In addition to traditional scholarships, many prestigious Catholic colleges and universities offer guaranteed admission to York Catholic students who meet the established academic performance criteria.

Knights of St. Paul Scholarship
The Knights of St. Paul is offering at least one $500 scholarship to a YC student(s) for use toward their tuition at York Catholic for the 2023-2024 school year. Applications can be obtained from and returned to Mrs. Gick in the Main Office.

Scholarships for current Juniors

Dr. George M. and Mrs. Mary E. Johnson Scholarship
This scholarship is for a current York Catholic junior interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The scholarship is used toward the student’s York Catholic tuition during his or her senior year at York Catholic.  Applicants should exemplify leadership qualities and skills through his/her participation in class, extracurricular clubs, groups, or activities.  The student will also uphold and practice the moral and religious principles of the Roman Catholic faith.  Applications can be found in the Google Classroom titled “Juniors (2024)” and should be returned to the Main Office.

Scholarships for current Seniors

Ray Tyo St. Ferdinand Scholarship (Diocese of Harrisburg)
This scholarship is valued at approximately $8,000 divided over four years and is awarded to one student from each diocesan high school within the Diocese of Harrisburg. The requirements are as follows: 1) be a practicing Catholic manifesting good moral character, 2) be a student in good standing, 3) be accepted for study at a Catholic institution of higher learning, 4) have a need for financial assistance and, 5) have the recommendation of the student’s high school administrator.  Applications can be found in the Google Classroom titled “Seniors (2023)” and should be returned to the Main Office.

O’Neill Health Sciences Scholarship
The O’Neill Health Sciences Scholarship is for students who will major in a healthcare field in college (four year or two year) such as nursing, pre-med, dental hygiene, etc.  Selection will be based on grades, SAT/ACT scores, interest, financial need, and teacher recommendation.  Applications can be found in the Google Classroom titled “Seniors (2023)” and should be returned to the Main Office.

Stephen M. Leiser Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in the YC science teacher’s memory and is open for a graduating senior who has taken some non-CP classes at York Catholic and who is interested in furthering his or her education.  Applications can be found in the Google Classroom titled “Seniors (2023)” and should be returned to the Main Office.

High School Engineering Society Scholarships
The Engineering Society of York is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for High School Engineering Society Scholarships to be awarded this spring for the academic year starting this fall.  The Engineering Society Scholarships are strongly based on need, academics and extracurricular activities and we encourage all high performing future engineers to apply. The committee will review the applications received and select the top students to be interviewed for these scholarships.  Edgar P. Kable was President of The Engineering Society of York in 1929 and donated $100,000 for scholarship in 1956. He was the General Manager of The York Water Company for 36 years. His nephew, John Kable, Jr., donated an additional $1,000,000 to the Fund in 2000. The mission of The Engineering Society of York is to promote the field of engineering in the York community.  The Engineering Society of York generally gives out four $2,000 Edgar P. Kable Scholarships each year. Each recipient in good standing will then receive $2,000/ year for the following three years ($8,000 total).  The following criteria are applicable for the Edgar P. Kable Scholarships:

  1. Must be a permanent York County resident at time of application
  2. Only students enrolled in an engineering discipline at an accredited college or university are eligible. Discipline/Major/Degree must be “Engineering.”
  3. If a student discontinues the study of engineering, they will not receive any additional scholarship awards.
  4. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status.
  5. Fully completed application and all required documentation.

Certified Nurse Assistant Training Scholarship

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must complete the form found at  The winner will be based on the most compelling story on why they would like to become a CNA and why they feel they deserve the award.

  • Applicants must be accepted into a state-approved CNA course/certification program by May 31, 2023.
  • Applicants must be a US resident and over the age of 18. will make out a check in the amount of $500 to the accredited certification program the scholarship winner chooses to attend.

The Knights of Columbus Scholarships

The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council has up to fifty scholarships available to students entering a Catholic College or University in the United States.  An applicant must be entering freshman year of an undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree at a Catholic college or Catholic university in the United States.  A member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus, the son or daughter of such a member or deceased member, or a member in good standing of the Columbian Squires. (Not limited to Fourth Degree members.)  Apply online at

Wimmer Scholarship

Seniors who are applying to St. Vincent’s College and possess a 3.25 or higher GPA should see their guidance counselor about this scholarship opportunity.  The winner of the 2012-2013 Wimmer Scholarship was a York Catholic High School senior, earning full tuition, room, and board.

Saint Francis University Franciscan Scholarship

Applicants must apply and be accepted to Saint Francis University.  This scholarship is awarded to all graduates of Catholic high schools, is worth $2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study and is awarded in addition to any other merit or need based awards a student may receive.

Law and Justice Careers Undergraduate Scholarship

This $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student of color, planning to pursue a law-related career.  The candidate must plan to attend a post-secondary institution of higher learning, academic achievement, financial need, and potential for making a contribution or society and legal profession.  A personal essay and official transcript are required.  Applications are available online at

Marine Option Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship Program

The purpose of this four-year scholarship program is to educate and train highly qualified young men and women for careers as commissioned officers in the United States Marine Corps.  The student must be admitted to an approved NROTC college or university, 17 years of age and be physically qualified by Marine Corps standards.  More information available in the Guidance Office.

Berridge Programs Scholarships

This summer theatre and film program is again offering two $1,000 merit scholarships as well as a financial need scholarship (up to 60% of tuition).  All high school students are eligible to apply.  Visit for program and scholarship details and applications. Deadline: NOW (scholarships are awarded as applications are received)

John D. Bare Scholarship Fund

Aid is available to graduating seniors heading to a college, university or two-year electronics school through the John D. Bare Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Interested seniors can obtain an application by submitting a request to M&T Bank, Trustee of the John D, Bare Memorial Scholarship Fund, 13 Baltimore St., Hanover, PA 17331.

Career and Technical Scholarships

The Imagine America Foundation (IAF) has been serving the career college community since 1982. IAF provides scholarships, awards, financial aid information, sector research and faculty training; honors achievement in career education; and supports and promotes the benefits of career colleges to the general public.  Click here for scholarship information.

JTL Driver Education Grant/Jacob Linn Scholarship Fund

The Jacob Linn Scholarship Fund, Glatfelter Insurance Group and State Farm Insurance are proud to offer the JTL Driver Education Grant. This grant was created in 2017 by the Linn Family in honor of their son Jacob Thomas Linn who was killed in a car crash in York County in January 2015 by an aggressive driver.  In an attempt to decrease the number of teen crashes and fatalities, the Linn family have started this grant for students in York County who find it financially difficult, or impossible, to afford driver education.  This grant is available to any York County student that finds a financial hardship in affording Behind the Wheel Driver Education.  There is an application and approval process for this grant.  For more information and an application, please visit the website: Information is also available in the College & Career Counseling Office.
